The BIM Loket is the knowledge platform and central point of contact around open BIM standards in the Netherlands. 'The NLRS makes an important, strategic contribution to the realization of our goals,' said director Jacqueline Meerkerk. 'This is because this Revit Standard facilitates the proper use of open standards such as IFC and NL/SfB in combination with mainstream 3D modeling software. The management of the NLRS is compliant with BOMOS and we are pleased with its inclusion on the Forum Standaardisatie's Recommended Standards list.'
Last year, the NLRS was recognized by the Standardization Forum as a recommended open standard. The Standardization Forum is a government initiative to review open ICT standards and encourage the use of open standards. "The recognition of the NLRS as an open standard helps its application in BIM projects where Autodesk Revit is used. The NLRS provides standardization and uniform exchange of information in these BIM projects. It makes communication based on other open standards such as IFC easier," said Mark Wieringa, president of the Revit Standards Foundation.
Following this recognition, the NLRS can be prescribed for implementation of government and semi-government projects. 'A welcome consequence of the recognition by the Standardization Forum is the inclusion of the NLRS as a partner standard by the BIM Loket. This will certainly accelerate the adoption of the NLRS within the Netherlands.'
The NLRS is constantly being developed in consultation with users. Björn Kamphuis, BIM manager at installation company Kuijpers and secretary of the Revit Standards Foundation:
'The NLRS is an integral BIM Standard for all disciplines. In this way, the NLRS offers me as an installer many advantages, but a construction partner can also benefit from these advantages. The NLRS thus promotes cooperation through uniformity in data from Revit to IFC.'
The BIM Loket manages several open BIM standards and also represents a number of partner standards. As a partner standard, the NLRS will continue to be managed by the Revit Standards Foundation. However, from now on the board will join partner and administrator meetings at the BIM Loket.
