Opening play and sports field 'De Rode Touwen' in Meelbeskamp in Diemen on National Outdoor Play Day

A large public playground in Diemen was festively opened on National Outdoor Play Day. The new playground includes a multifunctional sports field, climbing wall and a toddler boot camp, realized by Griekspoor in cooperation with the Municipality of Diemen.

The attributes

On the sports field, various sports can be played such as soccer, basketball, field hockey and badminton, due to the hybrid goal with basket. A large sound-absorbing fence is placed behind the goals to keep various balls inside the park. Across the playing field, the climbing wall is placed in an organic form, with a fall ground with suitable fall cushioning. This consists of fall sand, on which fall cushioning boards are placed and covered with artificial grass. Largely of these materials were sustainably reused from the old playground. This climbing wall has a unique detail, namely that it incorporates a reinforced shipping container where sports associations can store their equipment, at Griekspoor's initiative. More than 25 sports associations and community sports coaches have already signed up to play sports on this field with the children of Diemen. The toddler boot camp consists of various trampolines, play mounds made of green cast rubber and bridge equipment where children can climb.

Unique collaboration

The realization of the project was privately tendered by the Diemen municipality. Griekspoor was selected by the municipality to carry out the plan. Wim Verbree, Public Space Participation Policy Officer for the Municipality of Diemen: "We visited several schools to ask what the needs were. Then a completely different plan came out than initially intended." Together with the municipality, Griekspoor designed and realized a new plan. Verbree: "We are extremely satisfied with Griekspoor's flexibility, communication was incredibly smooth and went very quickly. In this way we were able to modify the initial plan so that it would fit the needs of the area even better."

Outdoor Play Day

Buitenspeeldag is an annual event in both the Netherlands and Belgium where children are encouraged to exercise and play outside. Exactly on this day, Griekspoor will present and festively open the latest project in cooperation with the municipality of Diemen, so that the children from this neighborhood can immediately take advantage of the opportunity.
