Demonstrating in temporary and permanent markings
At every stage of this major project, Van Velsen Reflection Lines ensures that road users have a good orientation.

Leader in temporary and permanent markings

During the long Ascension weekend last May, the A16 Rotterdam project was extremely busy. Van Velsen Reflectielijnen was also deployed several times that weekend by construction consortium De Groene Boog to install both temporary and permanent road markings.

As the largest marking company in the Netherlands, Van Velsen Reflectielijnen is present at many dozens of locations every weekend. "With De Groene Boog we have a long-term contract to install all temporary and permanent markings on the project," says Kevin Aantjes, project manager at Van Velsen Reflectielijnen. "We are used to working under high time pressure and it is no different on this project. Since De Groene Boog prepares everything to perfection, we can start immediately upon arrival. That works very pleasantly. During the Ascension weekend we were "called in" several times. For example, on the Saturday we applied permanent thermoplastic lines to new asphalt, on the same day we returned in the evening to blast away old lines, and on Sunday we applied temporary yellow markings to the pendulum of the road relocation over the temporary auxiliary bridge. Thus, at every stage of this major project, we ensure that road users can get their bearings. In turn, we like to arrange this to perfection for our clients."

As a market leader, Van Velsen Reflectielijnen continuously invests in new techniques and developments. "We want to be and remain a leader," says director Anne-Marie Zuidweg with determination. "Together with clients and suppliers, we devise solutions to apply line markings with a long lifespan, but we are also thinking about other issues such as bio-based materials with a lower environmental impact, the production of profiled line markings where the consumption of raw materials can be limited, such as the longdots, and of course the emission-free application of road markings. We are also working on making our machinery more sustainable. For example, the yellow markings on the A16 Rotterdam, which Kevin told us about, were applied emission-free. But we have many more plans in the area of sustainability. Van Velsen is in full swing."
