The weekly surveying of pocket beacons by surveyors is a monotonous but above all time-consuming business. On the Markermeer dikes alone, the number of pocket beacons will grow to more than 1,200 in the coming years. DeltaIoT knows how to realize a gigantic saving for the Alliance Markermeerdijken with the innovative DeltaCube.
With the help of the DeltaCube, remote pocket beacon measurements are automatically acquired, processed and transferred to our online platform, explains Camiel Duijts of DeltaIoT. "The online platform consists of a clear dashboard with the DeltaCube measurements and a 'device management section' to control the system. Our database is equipped with an API interface so that the measurement data can also be retrieved by third-party systems." DeltaIoT designs innovative sensor solutions with a focus on geodetic and geotechnical issues. "Our team includes embedded hardware and software engineers specializing in IoT, combined with experienced geodetic engineers and project managers."

Pocket beacons are used in all large infrastructure projects to measure the subsidence of the ground level during pre-loading. Duijts: "Recently, the footplate of the pocket beacon and the height of the sand package were measured on site by a surveyor. With the DeltaCube, we have developed a system that fully automates this work. The DeltaCube is mounted on top of a pocket jib. The system is equipped with an affordable precision GPS sensor that can accurately determine horizontal and vertical displacements to a few millimeters in the RD & NAP coordinate system. There is also a distance sensor to also determine the height and thickness of the applied sand package. On a weekly basis, the DeltaCube is turned on twice for several minutes for measurement. The DeltaCube is equipped with solar cells placed all around (three sides), making it autonomous and self-sufficient, regardless of which wind direction it is installed in."
In addition to pocket beacons, Duijts foresees a much wider application area for the DeltaCube. "Also for deformation measurements such as Structural Health Monitoring or calamity monitoring in infrastructure, the service is extremely reliable and affordable."
