Tensar's solutions are used in countless civil engineering projects around the world.

Application of geogrids for reinforced soil, asphalt or foundations

As a global market leader in the development and production of geosynthetics for foundation reinforcement, asphalt reinforcement and the reinforcement of ground structures, Tensar International knows in many cases how to save (construction) time, reduce construction costs and achieve significant environmental benefits. Not surprisingly, Tensar's solutions are applied in countless civil engineering projects around the world.

"Designing and delivering simple solutions to complex structural problems is where our strength lies," begins Paul ter Horst of Tensar, inventors of the geogrid. "An important added value then lies in the fact that with our grids we indirectly manage to achieve numerous additional savings on the total construction, both in terms of performance, material use and cost, as well as environmental impact. And we can quantify that for every project."

An important added value of Tensar geogrids is that their application indirectly provides numerous additional savings for the overall construction.

TriAx geogrids

Tensar's main product for realizing foundations under roads is TriAx. "With TriAx geogrids, we can mechanically stabilize (mixed) aggregate," Ter Horst explains. "Due to the best performance of all types of foundation geogrids, TriAx can give a much higher load spread and/or strength. In this way, you therefore need to use less material at the same traffic load and service life, but you could also extend the service life considerably by up to a factor of 5. These are trade-offs that we can substantiate perfectly with our solutions. If asphalt lasts longer, because rutting only occurs at a later stage, significant savings are realized. This ensures that the total cost for a construction is reduced and thus the impact on the environment is also greatly reduced."

TensarTech Stratum

Another important market for Tensar's products are the access roads, storage yards and crane stands constructed for wind farm construction. Ter Horst: "The construction of a crane stand usually takes into account a lifespan of at least ten years, assuming that the turbine has to be replaced after that period. Then you do want to be able to erect a comparable crane by then. Equipment, on the other hand, is always changing. Today, a crane siding is explained by the crane's registration number. That does make it very specific. It could just be that in ten years or more a different type of crane will be used in case of interim breakdowns. Then you will have to redo the calculation. The best and most favorable solution is a TensarTech Stratum granular mattress. It offers all the flexibility for the application of any cranes, whether or not in combination with pressure-distributing dragline baffles."

The application of Tensar TriAx and TensarTech Stratum thus contributes directly to lowering the realization costs of asphalt and foundation structures and indirectly to the energy transition as a whole, without compromising on safety. "Subsequently, the CO2 emissions of the project realization also decrease because reusable materials can be applied (mixed granulate), no concrete production and less transport are required."
