Inexpensive soil mapping

Geosonda is among the pioneers in soil mechanical research and has been engaged in probing since 1987. According to director Aad van der Burg, "A relatively inexpensive method to explore deep soil layers. As part of the ABO Group, together with our sister companies we can pick up the whole spectrum of soil investigation and consultancy."

Geosonda's scope is very extensive, to say the least. "Every year we are involved in about 1,500 projects, all of which we bring to fruition in a safe, high-quality and cost-efficient manner," Van der Burg says with appropriate pride. "This ranges from conducting soundings for a small addition to large infrastructure works and high-rise projects. In addition, we are frequently involved in foundation repair projects, often in hard-to-reach locations, and provide the necessary geotechnical advice if required."

Responding quickly and appropriately

"Currently we are doing a lot of probing for reconstructions of provincial roads," continues Van der Burg. "In close cooperation with our sister companies, we provide the complete spectrum in geotechnical soil testing for, for example, the N207 in Leiden, the N214 in Giessenburg and the N211 in Wateringen. We also carry out a lot of probing work for projects related to energy transition for the construction of new power houses, transformer stations, directional drilling, wind turbines and solar parks. Since some of our work takes place along the railroad, HSL, tramway or national road, we have the necessary certifications and our people have all the required safety training. They are also not afraid to work at night, an aspect that is becoming increasingly common and one that we can respond to quickly and appropriately. Even in today's busy times, we are able to respond quickly to new requests."

Geosonda has a huge fleet of equipment for soil exploration. "Our machinery ranges from large tracked CPT vehicles to smaller tracked vehicles and even demountable equipment for hard-to-reach locations. Data we generate from the soil survey is used for foundation recommendations, construction pit recommendations, drainage recommendations, settlement calculations, etc., aspects that we may or may not pick up through our sister companies. That completes the picture."
