In Waddinxveen, 110 trees are being moved from the Zuidplaslaan to the nearby new housing estate 'de Triangel'. The 30-year-old plane trees have grown too close together in their original location. In their new location, they will immediately add value to the new housing estate.
Just outside "the Triangle" is a row of Lime trees along Horticulture Road. These mature trees were transplanted several years ago and are now standing firmly in their new location. "With the arrival of the transplanted trees, the through avenue immediately creates a large green structure and the residents are very happy with this," says André Mies, Park Triangel project manager. "People like to live and live in a green structure. I have also already had these reactions back from residents who are incredibly pleased with the fact that there are mature trees."
Transplanting is also often cost efficient: planting a new tree and guiding it to a mature size usually costs much more than transplanting.

The tree is removed from the ground complete with roots and root ball all at once.
Planting and aftercare
The transplanting in Waddinxveen is being carried out in several phases. In the spring of 2018, the first 60 trees were moved. In 2019, the second phase of transplanting will start and the last trees will be moved to a new location. Different transplanting methods are used in the transplanting, depending on the size of the tree and the location. For most trees, the Optimal 3000, Europe's largest transplanting machine, is used. To ensure safe transportation, the crowns were taken. At the new planting site, the trees were anchored by posts, tree tape and a yoke. This is done because the trees will be creating new roots. In this process, they need to stabilize themselves so they will be fixed in the future without tree ties and yokes.
To ensure that the trees continue to grow well after transplanting, BTL Bomendienst immediately starts with aftercare. Besides watering, the aftercare also consists of regular monitoring of the trees, keeping an eye on the oxygen level and the moisture content of the soil. This intensive form of aftercare ensures that the trees thrive in their new location and thus add value to the outdoor space of the new housing estate.

Transplant successful!
