In the year in which engineering and consultancy firm Antea Group celebrates its seventieth anniversary, the company has purchased a piece of forest and nature reserve in the province of North Brabant. It may seem a surprising combination but there is no question of coincidence, says Tanja Lendzion, CEO Antea Group Netherlands. During World Day of Forests on Monday, March 21, the forest will be officially opened to the public.
About seventy years ago, a forest was planted in a moorland in the municipality of Nuenen. This created a wonderful place to enjoy nature. Two hundred kilometers to the north, around the same time, something new was started. In Friesland, two brothers started an "engineering firm for civil engineering works" that today is known nationwide as Antea Group.
That Antea Group was allowed to purchase a forest of the same age in its seventieth year is no coincidence. Lendzion: "It is a commitment that we make very consciously and with a clear objective. We want to make the world a little more beautiful every day. For people and nature. Our forest will be a place where we can learn a lot from when it comes to designing a sustainable living environment. But above all a place to meet and inspire each other."
The forest and nature reserve is home to a great diversity of flora and fauna. "For our engineers and consultants, this offers interesting starting points for research, education and demonstrations around biodiversity, climate adaptation and sustainable nature management," adds Change Manager Sustainability Marijke Frielink: "We have captured this in a clear vision and management plan for our plots."

On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, Antea Group is producing a series of videos in which, looking back to the past and looking forward to the future, the engineering and consultancy firm's notable projects and activities are recounted. The first story in this series is about the forest in Nuenen and will be released at the end of March.
