Elektrische MAN eTGE rijdt nu ook emissievrij als bakwagen, pick-up & kipper

Electric MAN eTGE now also runs emission-free as a rigid, pickup & tipper truck

  • MAN responds to growing need for clean transport in inner city
  • Even more application possibilities, for example for transporting furniture or for municipal services and construction companies

The first examples of the MAN eTGE as a box truck can now be found on Dutch roads. A large furniture chain uses the electric vans to deliver goods in the environmental zones of Amsterdam's city center. In this way, the company is doing its part to improve air quality in the center of our capital city.

At the time of the corona pandemic, the demand for home delivery only increased further. The license plate registrations in Europe clearly show that more and more companies have started to think sustainably. From January through May 2021, about 2,200 all-electric vans with a payload of 3 to 6 tons were sold. That is more than double compared to the same period in 2020.

New bucket truck and pickup & tipper truck

The MAN eTGE was previously available as a closed van for transporting goods, and as a minibus for passenger transport. MAN Truck & Bus has now expanded its range of electric vans to include two new variants of the eTGE developed in close cooperation with renowned specialists. These are the eTGE as a rigid van and as a tipper truck.

"As a box truck, the MAN eTGE is very attractive for delivery and courier services," says Martin Imhoff, Head of Product Marketing Vans at MAN Truck & Bus. "Many customers working in urban areas want as large a load volume as possible so that as many goods as possible can be transported. In addition, emission and noise requirements are becoming increasingly stringent, especially in urban areas. The MAN eTGE box truck meets all these requirements."

13.5 cubic capacity

As a bucket truck, the MAN eTGE has a body that is 3.28 meters long, 2.06 meters wide and 2.0 meters high (2.2 meters optional). This is equivalent to 13.5 cubic meters. The loading height is 1.05 meters. The body can be easily accessed with an extendable 4-stage rear entry aid. There are rails in the front wall and in the floor of the body with which the cargo can be fixed. The superstructure is supplied and assembled by SPIER Fahrzeugwerk of Steinheim, Germany.

The second new variant of the MAN eTGE serves an entirely different purpose: municipal works, construction companies and landscapers. Many pickups and tippers are delivered in these sectors. MAN, in cooperation with Veth Automotive from Duiven, has developed a tipper & pickup based on the eTGE. The body is 3.25 meters long and 2.04 meters wide. The 300 mm high side walls can be folded down. The payload of the standard bucket is 820 kilos, equipped with a tipping system it is 750 kilos. Optional is the large toolbox under the bucket, allowing tools such as brooms etc. to be carried without problems.

Smooth performance in the city

Combined with the new body options, the technical specifications of the MAN eTGE remain unchanged. The battery has a capacity of 35.8 kWh, the electric motor power is 100 kW. Thanks to its high torque of 290 Nm, the eTGE delivers smooth performance in the city. In urban use, the eTGE has a range of 120 to 130 kilometers. This can be achieved by recovering (braking) energy through recuperation.
